TORONTO, Ont. (April 23, 2020) Yardstick Assessment Strategies is pleased to announce they have entered into an agreement with The Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario to provide the Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician (MLA/T) exam online using live proctoring, starting August 2020.

“We are excited about this partnership,” says Michelle Hoad, CEO of the MLPAO. “Yardstick will provide a product that will help our MLA/T students challenge the provincial exam from the comfort of their own homes. We are not sure how long the current pandemic will last, but we want to ensure that our students are safe and can continue on with the progress of their career. This is essential because lab professionals need to enter the labour market to support Medical Laboratory Technologists as they test for COVID-19.”

The two organizations have accomplished much together since Yardstick was selected to create a practice exam site for MLPAO in 2018. Yardstick provided the setup and infrastructure to deliver online practice exams for MLPAO candidates. Feedback from these practice exams has helped candidates gauge their preparedness and identify knowledge areas for improvement.

Yardstick President, Isabelle Gonthier, PhD, says: “Our team at Yardstick has significant experience implementing online exams, so we’re glad to help set up a rigorous program for MLPAO. Especially in these uncertain times, allowing candidates to continue demonstrating their skills and getting certified will be a key factor in recovering from this crisis. This is especially important for the Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician exam, which certifies many of the professionals handling COVID-19 samples.”

Implementation has begun with online exams expected to start in August of 2020.

About MLPAO The Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) is the provincial organization for medical laboratory technologists and medical laboratory assistant/technicians. Incorporated in 1963, it represents over 3,100 laboratory professionals across Ontario.
